Cameron McDowell Mitzell
Actor estadounidense
Nació el 4 de noviembre de 1918 en Dallastown, Pennsylvania.
Hijo de Charles y Kathryn Mitzell. Su familia se trasladó a Chicora, Pennsylvania en 1921, cuando su padre fue aceptado como pastor de la John’s Reformed Church, Butler PA (Donegal Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania).
Comenzó como actor de teatro pero la II Guerra Mundial le apartó de los escenarios.
Tras servir en el ejército, retomó la interpretación e hizo su primer papel para el cine, La muerte de un viajante, en la que interpretaba a Happy.
Otro de sus personajes destacados fueron junto a Clark Gable, en Los implacables.
En televisión alcanzó una gran popularidad protagonizando la serie El gran chaparral.
En 1940, se casó con Johanna Mitchell Mendel, hija del magnate canadiense Fred Mendel. Su esposa dio a luz a su primer hijo, Robert Cameron Mitchell, en Nueva York el 4 de julio de 1941. Se divorciaron en 1960. Su hija, Camille Mitchell, y Cameron Mitchell, Jr., son actores. Otro hijo suyo, Fred Mitchell, fue presidente de la cadena Intercontinental Packers durante muchos años de trabajo junto a su madre, Johanna Mitchell.
Cameron Mitchell falleció aquejado de cáncer de pulmón el 6 de julio de 1994 en Pacific Palisades, California.
