Fats Waller
Thomas Wright Waller
Músico estadounidense
Nació el 21 de mayo de 1904 en la ciudad de Nueva York (Estados Unidos).
Considerado por muchos como el más completo de los pianistas de jazz.
Aprendió a tocar el órgano antes que el piano. En 1929 ya era profesional, aunque siete años antes ya había grabado sus primeros discos, acompañando a la cantante Sarah Martin.
En los años veinte actuó en diversos teatros y clubes de Manhattan y en la década de 1930 realizó giras y grabaciones con su propia orquesta, la Fats Waller & his Rhythm Bands.
Entre sus canciones destacan ‘Squeeze me‘, ‘Ain’t Misbehavin”, ‘Black and Blue‘ y ‘Honeysuckle Rose‘. En 1978 Ain’t Misbehavin’, obra en honor de Waller, fue elegida mejor musical de Broadway.
Fats Waller falleció el 15 de diciembre de 1943 en un tren en la estación de Kansas City a causa de una neumonía. Viajaba a Nueva York para pasar las navidades.
